"Passing" is a six-movement stereo audio composition that sonifies data on transgender discrimination from two surveys (NTDS 2008 Tennessee and USTS 2015 National), mapping statistical percentages of workplace harassment, school violence, housing instability, healthcare barriers, and mental health crises to sonic parameters such as amplitude, frequency, and stereo positioning. The piece transforms 73 individual Tennessee stories (left channel) and national patterns (right channel) into sound, with the severity of discrimination rendered through timbral intensity—beginning with contextual drones, moving through domains of systemic violence, and culminating in a resolution from chaos to harmony that represents both crisis and collective resilience.
